What we do

Food Services

In 2018, the Light House Mission served over 83,800 meals through the dining facilities. Three nutritious meals are prepared and served to the guests and the local community every day of the year.  Men, women and children depend on the Mission dining room to find their “next meal”.  We depend on the donations of food to supplement the cost of providing these meals.

Lodging

In 2018, the Light House Mission provided shelter to almost 6,000 for a total of over 30,000 nights of lodging. Whether homeless, emotionally troubled, or simply stranded, we take people into our facilities and provide the necessities of life.

Clothing

The Light House Mission provides clothing to individuals and families in need. We also have a Thrift Store that retails clothing, household goods, appliances and furniture to the community at prices that allow them to purchase good quality items at a fraction of the retail prices, even among other thrift stores.

Emergency Services

Regardless of social standing, disaster can and does strike homes throughout the Wabash Valley each year. To the low-income family, this is a devastating experience. The Light House Mission offers housing, food and clothes to these folks in need. When the time comes, we also provide the household goods needed to re-establish a home.

Light Life Program

The Light House Mission offers a long-term, 12-month recovery program to men and women struggling with alcohol, drug abuse, and various emotional problems. This program provides a 10-step program in a structured environment that allows participants to progress through recovery with the guidance of a caring staff. The program deals with the acceptance of their circumstance and condition, and moves through an understanding that God alone can restore to them the life that has been forfeited.

Education

If there is a common denominator that separates levels of social understanding, it is education. Literacy and G.E.D. classes are held weekly here at the Mission for both residents of the Mission and the public. We provide qualified, professional staff to assist in offering a safe and fully functioning classroom environment for all the learning areas alongside the Vigo County School Corp.

Counseling

Daily, people come into the Mission with deep emotional hurts and needs. We provide Biblical counseling to those receptive to this service as well as being a conduit to other mental health agencies based in the Wabash Valley.

External Ministries

People coming to the Mission often have needs that reach beyond the physical structure of the building. Men and women finishing the Light Life Program as well as folks placed in to the community by other agencies need attention on a regular basis. Our staff meets this need by making themselves available to visit the homebound and nursing homes, residences, and other community based housing in an effort to see that their needs are being met.
